The first time I shipped my car, the company delivered late and I ended up sitting in a hotel for three days until delivery. Is there any way to avoid this?

Yes, but this must occur during the negotiation phase. When the contract is being drawn up negotiate for the company to pay a specific amount to you if the car is a certain number of days late.
