How much it costs to ship your car internationally has a lot to do with where you’re going and who you are. If you’re shipping your car from a foreign place to your home country, you probably will be exempted of any taxes, VAT or import duties. However, car delivery to a foreign country where you are not a citizen (or, depending on the country, a permanent resident) may mean having to pay full import duties, which can sometimes be in the thousands of dollars. Cars that are more than 20 years old are usually exempt of having to pay customs duties, but newer models may be subjects to amounts of up to 35 percent of the cost of the vehicle. This is in addition to any VAT the country imposes on imported goods.

Another thing to keep in mind regarding vehicle shipping is that certain areas have restrictions regarding door-to-door delivery or the use of trucks in residential roads,so you may have to pay for storage or make sure you are there before your car, so you can pick it up on the spot. Certain countries may also have limitations on the type of vehicles you can import. Certain car models or makers that may seem common to you could be considered exotic in other places and subjected to higher taxes or special fees.
